converting a Canon 400D to infrared
-
davepicParticipant
Hi guys,
I was wondering does anybody know of a company in Ireland or the UK who will convert a Canon 400D to infrared?
Has anybody got their 400D converted and how did it go?
From looking around on the net it seems to me that I would have to send the camera to the USA for conversion, but Im thinking there has to be somebody doing it closer to home.Cheers,
DaveBMParticipantdavepicParticipantYeah checked that out already, MadMax operate out of the states.
Thought long and hard about buying the camera from Peter, but I have the 400D collecting dust.
Thanks anyhow

aoluainParticipantI thought about getting a camera converted too but I just wouldnt have to cash lying around for
something which would have only been used every so often during a few months of the year
and would have a very limited resale value.they were my negative points as to why I didnt go through with it.
Actually I think you can buy the filter for the sensor seperatly and get fitted here in Ireland.
I actually asked about it with ALAN MCDONALD in the photographic repair service
in Dublin he did a bit of work for me recently, very knowledgable and professional.worth contacting. 087-1350345

… as did I, but couldn’t manage it so close to Christmas. Having researched prices, NFL got a bargain!
nfl-fanParticipantCamera was like new…
Peter shipped immediatley…
And it’s a joy to use… to free myself of the IR filter and the sometimes 4 minute long exposures that accompanied it on my 40D….
Bliss…

Good news. Well done. Glad it’s working out. I have yet to see any complaints about Peter’s used kit.
Now, what about posting some for us all to copy/critique/envy.
… and bring it along to the Mournes trip so we can discuss/investigate further. Having seen some of Peter’s work and Martin’s, I think it is a fascinating area.
nfl-fanParticipantShe’ll be with me in Co. Down.
Only done some test work with it last weekend, nothing to adorn the wall, just getting to know the camera and working on the post processing side of things.

aoluainParticipantI think spring and summer are the optimum times for IR as
the photosynthesis of all the new plants and organic matter
shows up on ir black and white as WHITE.I always wanted to try some IR film years ago when I was
shooting film but I just didnt get round to it.Looking forward to checking out results form the new kit John
“no holes barred critique”

Will post a couple of pics when it comes back. Thanks again
Davenfl-fanParticipantPractical Photography magazine did an article on IR this month and they were touting some crowd in the UK for IR Conversion.
Could be the crowd you mention but I’ll have to double check later.
