Converting slides to digital

Two quick apologies to start with! Firstly, apologies if this isnt the best place to post this and secondly apologies if this has been asked a few thousand times already! I did try using the search feature but it returned a few hundred results and I couldnt find what I was looking for.

My dad has many years worth of slides that he wants to convert to digital. He already has a flatbed scanned built into his Canon MP600 all-in-one but he isnt aware of any way of using it to get the slides onto his computer as digital photos. After a quick look about I see there are a mixture of flatbeds that can scan slides and dedicated film scanners. Has anyone any experience of these and recommend what is worth having and whats worth avoiding? He doesnt want to spend too much on one (no more than £100) as whilst the slides obviously hold sentimental value to him he will have no particular use for it once everything is backed up. Thanks in advance!

Years ago I used a HP flatbed with slide adapter and it was crap! Not sure if they’ve improved. I then moved onto a Minolta film scanner and it was the business, I sold that last year as I had no use for it anymore, got about 100 euros for it after paying 400 old irish punts! At the agency I used to work at we used Nikon film scanners and they were great too. But as good as the scanner is, you need good software for it also. I can’t remember the software I used, but it wasn’t the bundled one. Worth getting a film scanner, you can always sell it on afterwards. Also, Ektachrome are a pain to scan as they always have a really blue cast on them.

I recently bought a flatbed scanner from elara.ie It’s an Epson V350 they have a few on the site It was a choice between that and the Canon I went for the Epson in the end because I was impatient and it was in stock. I’ve only scanned half a dozen slides so far but it’s doing a good job.
