Steven, I couldn’t see any of them, (firewall in work) so went you your website… Very very good. I see you’re balance atop a 6 foot wall is better than mine  I see you were just before the paddock too, lovely shots. If you don’t mind what kinda shutter speed, ISO and aperature were you shooting. Mine were about 100-200mm, f5.6 at the longer end, I found I had to go down to ISO400 to get any sort of fast shutter speed. I think a 200mm f2.8 will be on my shopping list, a full 5 stops faster than f5.6…..

    Thanks Brian & Ali.
Brian – I shot pretty much the whole day with the 300mm f4. Depending where I was, ISO varied from 50 to 200. Some people tend to have this thing that they need to shoot at REALLY fast shutter speeds, but a lot of the shots can be captured as low as 1/500sec, depending obviously on how fast the bike is going. For Black’s Farm, I shot with the 300mm f4 at ISO160 – ISO200 at 1/1000sec f4, manual focus. I wasn’t on top of the concrete wall, I was tucked in just behind the large pillar just to the LHS of the wall. That way you get a nice low angle. For the final corner, I think I was shooting around 1/640sec.

Great shots mate, its interesting how techniques vary from different motorsports, I’d rarely go above 1/200 of a second !

I know what SH is saying, I was shooting f5.6, ISO 200-400 and could only get 1/320th to 1/400th and still got some movement blur either from camera or from the bike. It depends on focal length as well, longer focal length will require a faster shutter speed. I think a rule of thumb is the shutter speed = 1.5 x focal lenght.
