Copper Coast.

I was travelling the coast home from Dungarvan on Tuesday and thought the sky looked interesting.
I had to have a go at photographing it. I thought the mono looked better than the colour.BTW I don’t normally frame online images but framed this because of the black bacground of another site I contribute to.
Thanks for looking,
John.Canon 40D 18-20018mm f8 1/400s ISO200 Handheld Aperture Priority Processed from RAW in PSE8
adrianmatthewsParticipantHi John,
Beautiful area of the country…. only discovered it two weeks ago while returning home to Dublin from Cork…. the long way.
On your image (could be my screen), there seems to be very little contrast between the sea and the coastline, foreground and middle just merge, overall the image is too dark and lacks detail.
Toning (something I am guilty of) doesn’t enhance the Photo in my humble opinion, can you post the BW version, maybe play around with the levels and curves to make it pop more?Adrian
5faytheParticipantHi Adrian,
Many thanks for taking the time to comment. It is indeed a beautiful area.
Your points are all very valid and I wouldn’t say it’s your screen.
Didn’t do myself any favours shooting into the sun. Not good light on sea and foreground.
Got myself a so so file with very dark top and bottom with a bright band.
Didn’t save the BW version so only have what you see and the RAW.I’ll go back to the start with your comments in mind and see what happens.
But not tonight. :)
Thanks again.
John.
5faytheParticipantHi Adrian,
I spent some time trying various processing but couldn’t come up with anything I thought was any better than
what I posted.
Probably my lack of processing skills or a not too well exposed file. Thanks again for taking the time to comment.
John.
adrianmatthewsParticipantPrefer to get it right on camera where possible first time, however not always possible at my novice level.
What software do you use?
5faytheParticipantHi Adrian,
Getting the best file possible at the camera stage is most advisable.
I use PSE8.
Ta for looking and commenting.
Cheers,
John.
markst33ParticipantI like it John, but I am a fan of very contrasty B&W stuff. Also the simplicity of the shot makes it too. Nice curves and a great sky.

Hi Mark,
I kinda like it too.
It was the sky that made me stop.
It wasn’t the ideal time of day tbh and the colour version wasn’t great.I do appreciate the points Adrian makes as well.
Many thanks for your comments.
John.
