Crash course in photographing Weddings?
-
NialloParticipant
Hi David. Yes I think a course of that nature would be a great. I did you’re advanced course last July/Aug David. (You’re probably saying Ahhh! Now I know who you are!). And yes, feel free to drop in here in Donnybrook anytime still. I’ll drop you an email over the next few days to see what the story is in relation to getting that particular course up and running.
Thanks again David.
NBabyfaceParticipantHi Niallo,
Just wondering how you got on with your quest?
If you were still interested I have been thinking of having a second camera on the weddings I do.
If you were still interested in tagging along give me a shoutNialloParticipantMadthingParticipantHi guys!
Im in the exact same situation as Niall there. I have turned down a wedding or two because I have no experience and I would hate to let someone down on their big day. Although I have agreed to shoot one next summer which gives me a good year to get involved. I would certainly be interested in doing a course in Dublin (digital beginners?). There seems to be such a gab in the market for that kind of course here! I know Im being cheeky but if anyone needs a spare hand for a wedding I really could do with the experience! :) I have a page on photo.net as a few examples of my work.

Well whatever you do, dont let anyone down on their wedding day. At least go out and do the job. If you let someone down like that, not only is your name mud but they have a very good case against you. Currently there is a case here in Galway where a lady took wedding pics and none “came out”. She is being sued for ?100,000 (which is ridiculous, I think and it will not come to that I expect).
They want costs of a re-shoot by a different photographer and costs for their time and inconvienence. They are claiming embarrisment, hurt at not having an “on the day record” and costs for spoiling their day.
Dont know how it will end. She has offered to re-shoot and ?3000 but it has been turned down.

Is this case getting any media coverage? I’d be interested in hearing more about it. Was there a contract signed at the outset? Did the contract not provide a “get out” clause for the photographer concerned? What’s the basis of the case, i.e., how does the prosecution (is that the correct term in a civil case?) determine that the none of the wedding pics “came out” – were they all blank, or just badly focussed, exposed and composed? Did the couple not see evidence of the photographers work before booking photographer?
One local “amateur” photographer who does a lot of wedding work in my locality once told me that if I was ever asked to do a wedding to not take any deposit and don’t sign any contract. That way, if something went wrong on the day, I couldn’t be sued for breach of contract. Must admit, I’ve always been very sceptical about that advice.
