a few months back i collaborated with a friend to document a project they were doing and produced some nice video and stills.
the other day i spotted that one of the stills was appearing online (fb) beside their artist statement with no mention of me or the collaboration or anything like that. i sent a message asking if they would mind crediting my part in the work and at first they said that they thought i had said it was fine not too and then got really defensive about it. (they added a comment in one of the posts but did not edit the original)
part of me thinks i am being a bit petty and should be glad that the work is out there and that someone likes it enough to use it.
the other part thinks that if the person respected the collaboration and my part in the work they would have not thought twice and automatically just given the credit.
That’s a bit awkward considering it was a friend of yours, I don’t think there’s any excuse for not crediting you. I’ve come across this a few times before with my own images but once I’ve contacted the persons involved they’ve normally added a credit for me.
I wonder how your friend would react to you posting the images / video on your FB page without giving them credit? Giving credit to people who helped is the least they should do.
Actually, the other day I was watching a video time-lapse produced by a photographer & he gave credit to everyone from the models, taxi driver, & his assistant for holding a torch during the shoot, which I found unusual but a nice addition to the video.
