SANCHOMember
Haven’t posted anything in freakin ages!! my apologies, been jolly busy. anyhoodle here’s one from the other week, was just playin around in me garden
joe_elwayParticipantThat is odd! Cool shot. It could have been an amazing one though.
I’m not sure I like the frame … I don’t like to see things being cut like that (see the bottom). And there’s some blowout on the shell… that’s unfortunate because its the snail thats the focal point for me. Maybe a tad bit more space on the top would be good too (extend the size of the canvas and cloning will do the trick. On second thought …. remove that white border/frame.. that’ll sort it.
Is there enough detail in the original image to retrieve detail from the shell?
SANCHOMemberunfortunately not, twoz a really sunny day. I had it without the frame but it just looked bland and boring i thought. i’m a fan of frames me :D
SANCHOMemberi’ve kept the frame but added a bit more space at the top. how’s it lookin now? Wish i had underexposed the shot a bit now :(
joe_elwayParticipantI think it’s a much better composition now. This was a tough one to expose for because of the variety of light/shadow… something was going to be lost either to blowout or shadow. Wouldn’t beat yourself up over it.
Next time … check it on the LCD for blowouts. I find it helps in bright situtions to get the light behind you and meter from the brightest part of the subject.
randomwayMemberWithout additional lighting this is the maximum, I agree. The recomposition really helped. Those yellows and greens are amazing… I see a lot of interesting yellow tones these days when I go out shooting, must be the blessing of Global Warming :)
AliParticipantvery interesting shot Sancho and i have to agree with you – the extra space at the top works a treat – rim lighting it super. I’m not really bothered about the blown out highlights. I think the shot is still well balanced.
Noely FParticipantGreat combination of textures and colours, the blowout isnt that prominent to make it unprintable.
Works really well
