Curragh Military Cemetary
-
shutterbugParticipant
I have seen images of this cemetary over the past years, and always thought it was
a nice place, I hate regimented lines of tombstones and the idea of just a few scattered
of the hill appealed to me. So I went in search of it, and found it. Dont think I have done
it justice though. Appreciate feedback especially on the conversion as I would like to do
more black and white landscapes. Thanks for looking!
Curragh by Jenny dot com, on FlickrAnonymousParticipantIt’s a tough one to comment on Jenny but for what it’s worth I would take away the bottom third of the image to make it more panoramic
or when you return just find a lower perspective without so much empty space in the foreground.I like the B&W conversion & the trees almost standing as sentries over the landscape.
shutterbugParticipantThank you John, I will try your suggestion to see what it looks like,
The sun was directly behind the last tree on the right and was very
bright, it looks like a halo round the tree but I don’t think it is, just
the very bright sky.texMemberI would agree with John’s suggestion about cropping some of the foreground in order to add more impact to your picture. That area of sky in the middle of the photo looks overcooked to me and does not match the areas on the left or right of it. This is a well photographed graveyard and there is any amount of pictures to be taken here depending on the time of day and year that you happen to visit it.
jessthespringerParticipantLooks like a very interesting place Jenny. I like this image as it is, a document of the place.
It’s unusual to see a graveyard so exposed, most I can think of are surrounded by trees. It’s also unusual to see headstones seemingly so displaced or unordered. The crop could work well, but that near head stone is a nice point of reference. Maybe a slightly wider view would add something.shutterbugParticipantThanks again for feedback, Tex I used a ND grad and all I did in post processing was to
reduce highlights and increase shadow, though I have been known to go a bit overboard
on clarity
Sinead, I kind of like the near stone also, I thought it emphasised the scattering of them,
It was probably totally the wrong time of day to be there too, I will certainly return
Maybe for a sunrise.
Thanks again for feedback, much appreciated.
