D-Lite 2 and SB800?
-
ExpresbroParticipant
I was thinking of using my SB800 with my D-Lite 2 twin head flash kit as a backlight and I was wondering what the simplest way of setting it up would be.
Somebody mentioned to me that I could set it up using the SU-4 mode on the SB800 and that it would simply pick up the D-Lite flashes firing and fire itself.
Has anyone here got any experience with doing this?
Cheers
Robbie
8)ExpresbroParticipantIt’s okay. I did a quick search and one of the Strobist sites Here had the answer.
Simple really..and ingenious, and apparently it’s not covered in the Nikon Manual.
BarkerPhotographicParticipantFor anybody else wondering what to do: Simply use the SB-800 on camera and the built in slaves in the D-Lites will trigger the heads in sync. Don’t forget to set the camera to Manual!
ExpresbroParticipantActually worked out really nicely. I tried this out tonight doing a shoot for a band. I just set up the one D-Lite with the larger softbox and then used the SB800 set as a remote using the above method.
Worked like a dream..and like Paddy said..I used the SB800 in manual mode and adjusted accordingly.
I’ll definitely be using this more in the future.
cathaldParticipantWill this work with the 600 also we were trying this last week at the camera club with Petes flash at the back
but we could not figure it outCianMcLiamParticipantThe 600 has no optical sensor unfortunately so no SU-4 mode but you can buy cheap optical triggers with a hotshoe mount to do the same job.
ExpresbroParticipantKen is right Cathal..it’s not possible with the SB600 without third party add ons.
I presume that you can set up the SB600 in regular remote mode though, where it’s controlled by the camera. Only thing with this though is that you need to use the on camera flash in commander mode to fire it. What’s really handy with the SU-4 mode is that any flash will trigger it.
PeteWMemberThat explains that then ! Thanks guys… these optical triggers presumably fire the flash off camera when the main heads fire ?
