D60…worth the extra money??
-
KildareGirlParticipant
I know probably asked a million and ONE times, but I really am stuck, I’m getting it brought over from the states for me and have narrowed it down to I believe a D40 or D60, but thought I’d ask the experts …..Mostly ill be shooting(photographing  ) kids and Motorbike racing
The lenses that come with both the cameras are:D40
18-55mm Nikkor
55-200mm G Nikkor(can get this upgraded to VR as well)
Nikon bagD60
18-55mm VR Nikkor
56-200mm G Nikkor(can get this upgraded to VR as well)
and bag as wellits 799 for the D60 and 599 for the D40(american dollars)
Im just not sure if the extra updates that the D60 has is worth the extra couple of hundred…I think ive pretty much read every forum and review now at this stage and it seems to be pretty evenly split between the 2 cameras, I’ve wondered about the Canon as well but it’s all starting to merge into one now at this stage
So….Opinions??
Thanks:D
MartinParticipantThe D60 I would go for by a mile. Im not into mega pixels normally but the D60 is 10mp where as the D40 is 6.1, The D40 is basically the old D100/D70 in D40 clothing…
Are you sure its the D40 and not the D40X as there is a big difference
M
nfl-fanParticipantAnd just remember that the D40, D40x and D60 only provide autofocus capabilities on the newer AF-S lenses.
If you’ve read the reviews then you’ll have seen mention of this.
SharkMemberHi KildareGirl
I had the same question on my mind a couple of months ago. In the end I took the advice from Ken Rockwell’s website and went for the D40, and I’m not disappointed. I used the savings I made to partly offset the cost of a Nikkor 18-200mm VR lens, and it’s permanently attached to the camera now. I also got the SB-400 speedlight, which is capable of bounce flash – making the resultant pictures less harsh than those that you get using the in-built flash.
The camera with the 18-200 attached, and the speedlight fit snugly in a LowePro Rezo TLZ 20 bag.
Unless you want to shell out lots more for a more serious camera (e.g. D300), I think the differences in the D40/40x/60 family aren’t significant.
Nfl-fan’s point about the limitation to lenses with built in autofocus motors is a valid one. Only you will know if this will hinder you in the future, though.
Good luck,
Shark
KildareGirlParticipantHiya Martin, no its definitly the D40 that the deal is on…:)
NFLFan, I’ve no other lenses so it’ll be all newer lenses that ill be buying anyway…:)So dont think that it should hinder at all??Hope not!!:)Any NFL team in particular?:D
Shark…yah they seem very similar..Thats why i was wondering if i should just hold on to the extra couple hundred or just get the D60 ahhh its very confusing !!!
What would be better for shooting the bikes would yahs think???
And thanks all for your answers :)
