Dachau Memorial Site, Dachau, Germany.
A former Nazi concentration camp, constructed March 21, 1933.. Dachau was not the first concentration camp, it was though the first concentration-style camp after which all the other concentration camps were modeled! Like Auschwitz, Dachau has come to symbolize the Nazi concentration camp to many.
Mick451ParticipantalancotterParticipantCheers for the feedback..
Yeah, their not everyones cup of tea thats for sure.. When i visited Dachau it was March 2006 and it was snowing heavily, i was glad it was snowing because it just showed how bleak the place is..
Liam2673ParticipantNumber 2 definitely stands out for me Alan, although I like how you’ve framed the first.
I was in Dachau about ten years ago; it was a really hot September day, and I was fairly badly hungover from a night in a beer tent, so I didn’t really appreciate or get a proper understanding of the place. However I’ve been to Birkenau since then, in November a few years back, and for me your second shot evokes the mood I would have picked up there. The thing that struck me most about Birkenau (as opposed to the neighbouring Auschwitz) is the huge scale of the place. All of the wooden sleeping quarters had been burned down by the Nazis, but in Birkenau these buildings had brick chimneys, which are still standing, so there is row after row of brick chimney. Obviously in Dachau, the buildings were also burnt down; nonetheless the second image here does well to capture the scale of a concentration camp and its grimness and quietness. The fence in the photo is presumably an electric fence (or was then)? Its a really good shot. The third and fourth images, I don’t get this same sense of scale, because i guess the trees obscure the open expanse.
DeeboParticipantVery nice set and processing
Number 2 stands out by far, great us of the out of focus wire to add the interest on the left foreground, excellent
A crop of one would help, i would keep in the top bar of the sky but just reduce it
DeerobmgraMemberbrilliant alan, and lovely processing aswell.number 2 does it for me. one thing about it, id crop it until the little bit of wire on the top right was gone.
alancotterParticipantRestlessNativeMember1&2 for me but especially number 2, very moving and excellent frame with the out of ficus close up of the fence
I am not sure I could stomach a visit to these places
alancotterParticipantI can certainly see where you are coming from, but as it’s a huge part of human history i wanted to go and see it. I haven’t been to Auschwitz & Birkenau yet, but i plan to go soon enough, maybe next winter.
With the above shots, well the ones i choose to post, i wanted to show all aspects of the Memorial site and not just grizzly bits. Above is just a very small selection i have from this series..
Thanks again for the feedback…
EquinoxParticipantVery nice set of shots and nice processing, no. 2 is the shot for me.
