Two of my “dangly” earrings getting up close for a macro compostion :) C&C, as always, welcome.
Thanks,
Janine
bingbongbiddleyParticipantI like the background, it complements the colours of the earrings nicely. What did you use, a piece of card?
Personally, I think a little bit more depth of field would improve this.
GenieParticipantThanks Alan for commenting. I used a piece of coloured drawing paper, I got a book of it in Aldi. Every colour under the sun in it :) When you say more depth of field do you mean the picture to be more in focus? Less shallow?
bingbongbiddleyParticipantYeah, depth of field means how far the focus extends from where the lens is actually focused. A smaller aperture (with a bigger f/number) gives more depth of field. I would like to have seen the whole of the disc earring in focus.
What did you use for lighting? And what lens did you use?
GenieParticipantLight used was natural light and I used a 28-105mm lense with a macro lens (disc??) attached to it. I always get confused about shallow/greater depth of field. I know how to achieve them but am not sure which one is called which :)
shutterbugParticipantI like the colours also, but maybe dangling it would be nice too?
Shallow = Less so small number f2.8 etc
Greater = More so larger number f16 etc
Does get confusing if you start including large/small apertures as
they are the opposite ie f2.8 LARGE aperture f16 SMALL aperture :)
Hope I havnt confused you more lol :)GenieParticipantJenny, when I read something that says a large aperture I always think “Now is that large as in wide open or large as in number” :) Shallow I can deal with but greater confuses :)
bingbongbiddleyParticipantWell, in my opinion when someone says large aperture they mean a large opening, i.e. a small number. To say otherwise is incorrect English in my opinion. :)
But it definitely is confusing until you get used to it. I was using an SLR for about a year before things really started to click, and I’m still learning. It’s all part of the fun.
kenhParticipantReally interesting subject for macro, but I think the nbackground is a little too overpowering – sort of sucks the detail from the subject.
GenieParticipantKen,
I tried it on a few different backgrounds, green and purple looked well but I thought this one looked the best. Kinda stronger, but I hear what your saying about it overpowering the earrings. Rainy days makes you look around for indoor stuff to snap :)Thanks for replying,
Janine
