Danny O’Brien – RIP

I’m sure I’m a strange “face” around here for most & I know Danny O’Brien (aka Valencia) hasn’t been very active on PI for quite some time. But he was one of the original members, a gentleman and a superb photographer. Unfortunately Danny has passed away :(

Unfortunately I never met Danny in person, but have followed his photography – mainly through Flickr over recent times (http://www.flickr.com/people/valentia/” onclick=”window.open(this.href);return false;), where even up until this weekend he was photographing the not so successful hot air balloon festival in Trim.

RIP and my sympathies to his family and friends. Details of his removal and funeral mass can be found here for those of you interested.

I’m truly shocked by this news. Only heard it this morning. Was only chatting to him on FB last week and had been following his pics from the Trim Balloon Festival.

I never even knew he was ill…which is a measure of the man he was. He always seemed so cheerful and positive.

    R.I.P Danny :-(

Very sad news and shows how precious life really is, I am always blown away by Danny’s work and to this day , I think his Gannets fighting shot is probably one of the best wildlife shots i have ever seen on here and other site’s.

    Sadly missed R.I.P.

Very sad news indeed about Danny. Just heard on the local radio that they
will send 2 balloons up this evening with black streamers attached. Think
I also heard on there that he had been up in a balloon at the weekend
photographing Trim Castle from the air.

Enjoyed his blog when I would think of it. RIP.

I had a quick look at Danny’s Flickr site and many of the pictures brought back memories of his shots in particular the Mother feeding her chicks.
Some really beautiful pictures from a man who obviously loved live and to let others see sights that they may never have had a chance to see only for his photos.

RIP and My condoences to his family.

Checked his profile and this was his photo log http://porchfield.com/” onclick=”window.open(this.href);return false; , last updated on the 7th April.

His ‘About’ is also quite poignant…

Yeah, his website was last updated on the day he passed away. A stunning photographer and a gentleman. I knew him online long before I met him in person. But, he was the kind of guy who, when you met him, you thought you’d known all your life. An inspirational photographer, in so many ways.

His passing was sudden and unexpected. He wasn’t unwell, as such. A real shock to those who knew him.

His funeral was large. The church overflowed with well-wishers. It was a celebration of his life and a farewell to a brilliant man.

He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
