FintanParticipant
the history of any film question that compares with digital [on any forum]
– original poster (OP) makes a question in good faith
– one or two replies on topic
– one or two replies, i’m not pro or anti digital, BUT digital is this that and the other
– one or two replies, i’ve spent 10 minutes in darkroom and computer is much better
– one or two replies, computer is much beter coz thats the way i do it
– then the inevitable this is going nowhere thread plus chorus
– then the lets lock this threadtheres no need to be locking threads if people stay on topic

I agree with Joseph on the locking the thread point. There is no point as someone else will bring it up somewhere else and some of the points here will be of use to someone I presume. If people want to argue in circles, then so what…it’s better than saying nothing at all.
And actually..my opinion is that Neely did lighten the humour of the thread. Of course you have to HAVE sense of humour in the first place to appreciate that
Yes but it would help if the contribution was an experienced, educated one.

I’m not sure they help I put the “wink” after my lock the lock the thread comment and look at the responses.
 ( wink implies jovial attitude to comment not to be taken toooooo seriously)thefizzParticipantFintan wrote:

Your right Fintan, this does happen on most forums, except http://www.apug.org of course.
ExpresbroParticipantNice plug Fizz… :D :)  :P
Hey Graham…sure we all know you have a sense of humour…and a penchant for devil worship….hehehe!!
MarkKeymasterI don’t understand why a thread sould be locked;
are opinions to be censored again?Didn’t say I was locking the post.
The only ‘censorship’ which is an over the top description which I take offense to, are when rules are broken.
No apologies will be made for when posts are removed, edited or locked if they breach site rules or etiquette.Anyhow, thats all off topic.
This post has gone down the usual route, hence there are rules around trolling/baiting and the like.
Its a topic which has been over discussed by photographers worldwide.jb7ParticipantNot you as well Mark?
No need to take offence Mark,
I wasn’t directing my remark towards you,
but at the suggestion that the thread be locked,
which is to censor further discussion, in effect. For no good reason.
This thread has become boring due to the massive amount of off topic posts,
of which this is one,
so I’ll leave it there.j
Alan RossiterParticipantWhat’s a dark room?? :?
(Is this where I put the smileys?)
The end…
MarkKeymasterFair enough Joseph, thanks and sorry I misread. Easy to take offense on a forum I’m afraid.
You do have a point regarding the subject going so far off topic. Maybe thats what always happens
to the this vs that discussions that take place everywhere :)This thread won’t be locked. Its very rare that one needs to be in truth.
So folks either back on topic or leave the thread alone :) (that goes for me as well)
Mark
MarkKeymasterBack on topic, well at least more on topic.
I’ve only developed 1 roll of 120 to date and really enjoyed what was due to inexperience a rather
frantic process. Timing this, measuring that, ensure temps are ok etc…Was a great buzz out of seeing the roll develop. Haven’t tried printing (said 120 negs are not worth attempting :) )
but would like to some day. I think that I’d enjoy the process.I also enjoy the relatively limited processing I try to do on the PC.
Something which seems to be happening is that people (like myself to some extent) who have come via the digital route
are also having a shot at film photography also. For me, whether film which my experience is very limited or digital, its that final result which give me
personally the greater joy (after actually pressing the shutter that is :) )jb7ParticipantDigital is a fantastic entry to photography,
it allows you to learn quickly-
and the mistakes you inevitably make are not expensive. Some people will want to take it much further,
moving from the harmless toke on a DSLR
to the Crack Cocaine of film and chemicals. To borrow one of Pete the Bloke’s more damning metaphors.
I don’t think it’ll ever go away,
people who are introduced to photography through digital,
and who are hooked enough to do their own digital processing
might be hard pressed not to dabble further,
at some point in their lives.Although some others will never revisit the habits of their youth-
j
