Darkroom equipment wanted
-
karlmartiniParticipant
I’m a photography student and am looking to build a darkroom in a bathroom so I’m looking for the following, hopefully all from one source:
Enlarger that can do medium format as well as 35mm. An enlarger that can be projected onto a wall would also be useful.
trays
chemicals
paper
easel
contact sheet glass sandwich thing
I already have the gear for film processing although a big dev tank to hold 5 rolls of film would be nice. Thanks
Karl
thedarkroomParticipantHi Karl,
just a quick note about the tank to process 5 rolls. I wouldn’t recommend it because they are very prone to problems with air bubbles on your negs, more so than single reel tanks. I generally would consider that the three reel tank or less is preferable because of this. The Paterson three reel will do three 35mm or two 120 roll films. What is the largest size tank that you have? Do you have a three reel, if not I have one here that you can have. I also have a five reel and I think I have an eight reel (not too sure and will need to check on monday)
I use the five reel tank to wash my films but not to process. I’ll check on monday to see what I have and if I have a spare then you’re welcome to it.David
jb7ParticipantOh dear-
I regularly process 5x 120’s at a time in a Paterson tank-
I don’t have a problem with bubbles at all,
but am aware of the risk of messing up all 5 in one go-
though it hasn’t actually happened yet- (knock)8x 135’s, same thing, no bubbles, though it’s been a while since I’ve done that many in one go,
I used to do it pretty regularly.Giving the base of the tank a sharp knock on a solid surface just after the developer is poured in will help dislodge any bubbles-
though the base of my large tank cracked in the end,
and is now repaired with epoxy, has been for years now…Like much of my equipment, undesirable and worthless…
thedarkroomParticipantHi Joseph,
I have processed the larger quantities successfully myself and I also knock the tank on the counter top to dislodge the bubbles, etc. but I do find that the bubbles appear on occasions, not often but the fact that it can happen is enough for me to consider it not worth the risk. I have it down to a fine art now where I can have a line of five triple tanks (or whatever number) and start the processing cycle at 3/4/5 minute intervals so that I’m not standing around for hours in the darkroom. I generally need to lock the door to prevent any distractions so that my sequence of pouring, tapping, knocking, exchanging, washing multiplied by five isn’t interrupted.
Everyone to their own.

Beeker40ParticipantHi Karl
I have a listing at present for Durst Enlarger with colour head and swivel to wall projection position plus many accessories.
