    hi PI people my question is … if i format my cameras card by mistake can the photos be recovered from it still …

    Normally, once formatted the images will be totally wiped. It could be possible to recover them using specialist equipment, but it would be very expensive to use & no guarantee of success. Some of the better data recovery programmes might be worth a try, especially if the card hasn’t been over-written.

    Yes, absolutely. I’ve done it before…just make sure you don’t take any photographs on the card until you try. You could try something like this:

    Unfortunately the software I used last time was lost on a failed HD, which is quite ironic, don’t you agree?

    Hi Naja. When you format a card – the first letter only in the file name is deleted. The images are still on the card – so as long as you don’t add anymore they are 100% recoverable.

    There are many free undelete / unerase programs if you google them.
