Don’t have one myself but something like below might be good. Can hold some camera gear and your sambo’s, flask etc

Have used lowepro for years and its great quality stuff. Have a look around their website. Also camera shops might have some on display that you could look at, i know they do in Dublin don’t no about Donegal.

You don’t say how much gear you’ll be carrying but maybe something like the Lowepro Rover Plus AW or the Orion Trekker might be what you’re looking for. Both have a padded bottom compartment for your camera gear and a second top one for other important stuff like lunch :)

I have the Rover Plus myself and it has plenty of space for a DSLR with lens, a flash and two or three more lenses. I find it very useful for traveling cause it means I can take my camera gear and other essentials on a plane in one piece of hand luggage.

I bought a Tarmac Expedition 5 its slightly cheaper than the Lowepro stuff and its very high quailty. It has lots of pockets, all waterproof, tripod attachment and you can add to it with other attachable packs if you get more equipment. :) Expect to pay about ?50/55

I have a slingshot which was bundled with my d80 and is ok must admit i dont like it gest un comfortable with the d80 and one lens….

plus no room for snacks!! disaster!

I like the idea of a bag that can take say the camera+ two lenses and small stuff like filters and cards and still have room for esentials like food and rain proofs :) in Donegal! never! :)

Why not go for a proper fitted rucksack
and make up inserts for the camera gear?

Lighter weight, more storage, and more comfortable…

Im using the Lowepro Orion Trekker II, not bad, room for D80 plus 1 or 2 lenses and all the other bumph you need. Good top compartment for flask, sambos, waterproofs etc. Padded shoulder straps which make it good for all day use. I looked at the micro trekker as well but the straps were rubbish.. think it would be uncomfortable on a long day out so would say the orion is the better of the two.
    But….
It is rubbish in the rain, was out on fri and came home with my D80 in a puddle  and if anything leaks in the top compartment it will run into the bottom.

Feel like im having a bit of a rant here but it seems that the bags that have all the needs for the outdoors are the really expensive ones. J, think you might have the right idea. get a good rucksack and convert it.

If you don’t see the stuff your looking for in a camera shop, ask anyway, we keep some of ours (jessops in newry) in the stock room because it keeps getting pinched.

I’m on my 3rd bag now and have settled on the Lowepro Mini Trekker Classic;.
    http://products.lowepro.com/product/Mini-Trekker-Classic,1966,14.htm
Before this I had the Slingslot 200AW and Tarmac Expedition 5. The slingshot i really didn’t like, two slow and awkward to take off. I know that sounds like a contradiction!
I found the Tarmac Expedition 5 a bit bulky and had way more padding than it needed.

The Mini Trekker Classic is a very tidy bag and has loads of room. I can fit in 40D w/24-70 attached, 70-200, 10-22, flash + lots of other bits.

I’ve had my Orion Trekker for a year and am very happy with it. I couldn’t find it on the Lowepro site though, so it may be discontinued.

If I were purchasing now I would go for a waterproof bag, or at least one with a waterproof cover.

[It would also have to be bigger as I have more stuff than I had last year ! :D ]

As Sinead above I had a Lowepro Orion Trekker II which I found out was not very waterproof!!!!!!!!!!!

I have recently got a Samsonite Trekking Premium Daypack from Picstop…….with postage ?65!

    http://www.picstop.co.uk/Camera-Cases—Bags/Samsonite-Trekking-Premium-Daypack

This has the added advantage of a detachable rain cover (Which is handy as unlike some over pack where the rain cover is attached…you can easily hang this up to dry off away from the pack!!)

Have used Picstop on numerous occasion, very good service and delivery!!

I use a LowePro Mini Trekker AW, which is a great bag. Not much extra space for non-camera gear though.

I have a Crumpler that I use for my laptop – they are excellent bags, so if you find one in a form factor that would work for you I highly recommend them.

    Cheers,
    Peter
