Deciphering Headstone Inscription

Some years ago this site helped me to decipher a headstone – of a woman buried in the town of Abeokuta, Nigeria (I was unsure whether the grave was her’s. Deciphering the inscription enabled me to confirm it and have it looked after etc).

I have a new challenge. Recently I visited the town of Lokoja, on the Niger River, Nigeria. There is a old cemetery there dating back to the very earliest days of the colonial era (1840’s) . I know from other sources that there are three Irish missionaries buried there. They died respectively in the years 1886, 1921 and 1930. The cemetery is in a poor state – no upkeep. (except for the three graves of Royal Navy sailors which are clearly looked after – the same is true of Royal Navy graves worldwide, I’m told).

I have photos of the cemetery and a lot of photos of various headstones, including close-ups. Of particular interest was a large Celtic cross with an indecipherable inscription. I doubt that this would be for the three priests, but you never know.

Now I want to make my photos of the Celtic cross available to the experts of this site in the hope that someone might decipher the inscription. However I do not see anywhere here the option to post photos. I am a pensioner, so my sight may not be so good. Can anyone let me know if it is possible and I will act accordingly

Hello Eamon X1, I’m afraid you have been left unanswered for a month! If you post your photograph(s) onto a web sharing site such as Flickr, you’ll be able to proceed from there. Give it a try and if you have any problems, let us know and we will try to help.
    Alex.
