    Had a try at shooting stars last night & ended up with these (Betelgeuse and two other unknown stars). Images are heavily cropped

    I think they look a bit soft or maybe it’s my tablet !!!! only kidding. Would you mind sharing your setting as I intend to do some space travel next weekend.

    interesting! i like the greeny tones at the bottom of the blue one…

    before reading the text at first i thought you were going to say that you took a picture of a light in a dark room…

    Thanks Dave & Isabella.
    Dave: These were taken at between 1/4 sec to 1 sec, f/8, 6400 ISO. I wanted to try work out what shutter speed I would have to use at this focal lenght to avoid the stars trailng & to avoid blowing the highlights.(600mm + two x2 converters stacked on a crop sensor) The images still needed to be cropped a fair bit, as single stars tend to look lost & it’s easier to see any detail in the stars. I’m not familiar with the night sky & the star names, but I think #3 is called Altair. Some interesting patterns can also become visible in some of the stars, like the one below.

    Even a slight breeze made it almost impossible for me to focus at this focal lenght, so had to wait ’til it was calm. :)
