made a 2nd attempt at bluebells today in a new , much better location…the change didnt help, i still found it very difficult !! :x . please comment , i really want to get to grips with photographing these flowers , so all c+c more than welcome !!
this is a 2 shot pano , probably the best of the day
bluebell pano 1 by dallan healy, on Flickri kind of like the foreground in this one but the bluebells seem soooo far away :x
boyle blubells 3 by dallan healy, on FlickrshutterbugParticipantI know exactly how you feel, the sight of bluebells en masse never come across in a photograph
do they? Though saying that I do like both shots, they do look better viewed big and on a black
background though. I dont think you have done badly at all :)IsabellaParticipantknow what you mean about the difficulty with this kind of shot, I’ve tried similar things with swathes of ramsons… they’re both really beautiful, if i had to pick one id go with the top one as being more successful at getting across the wonderful endlessness of blue under trees. the composition is ever so slightly stronger in this one too, though i wonder if horizontally flipping the second one would nullify that?
mwallParticipantDallan,
you’re being too hard on yourself as I think that you’ve captured the theme perfectly.
Especially in pic 1…if I could get a shot like this I’d be delighted.
MikemarkcapilitanParticipantThe flowers there definitely aren’t as impressive as they were last year. I got a couple of rolls of film back during the week, and there’s nothing to rival what I took last year. When they were out last year, all the trees had leaves on them, which helped make nicer compositions & lighting was nicer.
It’s an impressive wood isn’t Dallan….looks fab, but is tough when it comes to trying to get it across in pictures!miki gParticipantHi Dallan.
This sort of shot isn’t really my thing, but if I may suggest, getting down low & shooting in portrait mode. The flowers would become more dominant IMO & the trees wouldn’t be cut off so much. Just an idea that might help. I would also try a subtle HDR to see if that would help.climberhuntParticipant
