Developing Iford Delta 3200 in Rodinal Special

Has anyone any experiances with this combination? I was thinking of halving the concentration and doubling the time to try and reduce grain size.

    Cheers

In theory this should give less grain but also less contrast. Have not used this developer with this film though

Check the dev times on the massive dev chart, I dont know if you could simply just half the developer amount and double the time…

Kodaks xtol at 1:1 is what I have been using for this film, does a great job of reducing grain size. If you cant get your hands on xtol then ID-11 or D-76 would be the nearest thing to it, think gunns has these developers

Thanks Martin for that I shot a roll of 120, as that was what was in the camera. I was on Howth Pier last week with hugh waves coming over it and I would like to get the best out out of the film there was plenty of spray on the lens so I dont know what to expect. I would have used my DSLR but I had no card in it (Not for the first time!)

Doubling the 1:15 time for Rodinal Special for a 1:30 dilution is a starting point but you’d need to test as it can sometimes be more or less than double, depending on the film.

Tmax developer was recommended to me for this film many years ago and it worked well. It suits fast (and pushed) films as its a relatively fine grain developer which also works great with shadow details which may block up on these contrasty films.

I haven’t used this combination for ages but I’ll dig out my notes tomorrow and post times and dilutions. I mainly used it for a studio project I was doing which involved very contrasy images but it worked fairly well.

Handy little chart of Kodaks developers attached

(handy feature being able to attach pictures mark rather than having to host them somewhere)

    Hi thanks for the replies

Here is the result of 1/2 strenght double the time

The pics turned out rubbish camera shake sea spray but for the record here is one of the better shots

    Thanks

Hmm prefer the other way of linking a file rather than uploading and creating those scroll bars
