If you have just started in photography you need to join a camera club to learn the basics.
Find a subject that interests you in either landscape, seascapes, portraiture, macro to name but a few.
Look at other photographers work and style of photography and try to draw inspiration from those
photographers that you like, not necessarily to imitate.

Photography is about capturing an image that will interest a viewer, make them stop, look and hopefully
think about the image before them.

    Hi Oisin,

I think that the light is a bit flat in both of them.

    Keep it up !.

The first image is a little busy with all the briars and scrub land, so for that
reason I think I favour the portrait version, both are a little washed out and if
you took these in the midday sun that is probably why. Have you tried a
polariser or nd filter? If you play around with your editing tools you could
probably get more detail from them, ie. reduce exposure a little and up the
contrast. We all had to learn and indeed are still learning everytime I pick
    up the camera.

The most important thing is to enjoy what you are doing!
