Digital B&W printing

When sending digital black and white prints to a lab is it possible to choose from a selection of papers such as is available in traditional black and white printing the present printers I use only have few options the best of which seems to be rag. Looking to something along the lines of traditional fibre papers.
stcstcMemberi can do prints on hahnemuhle photorag, up to A1 size
I also have various other papers available, but the photorag 308 is by far the best for B&W fine art type prints
give me a shout if you want some help

ParadoxPicturesParticipantHi,
I have had some problems with getting my black and white images printed- they always seem to come out too dark. I am aware that there is a 30% (I think that is right?) drop in brightness from screen to print. Is there a chance that is could be down to the printers being used or… should I just compensate for this problem and brighten up my images before going to print?
Any info/advice would be amazing!

stcstcMemberif your based in dublin give me a shout and i will show you some samples
what works generally if to doctor the midtones of the image before printing generally
gavinParticipantCan recommend Stephen 100% hand on heart, have only had one A2 print done so far, but it was top notch and no loss of tone (30% bloody hell get that checked), as someone coming from a wet room to digital, getting prints done was always my biggest issue. (Stephen more are on the way)
ParadoxPicturesParticipantThanks!
I am based in Belfast at the minute but thank you for the kind offer and advice. I don’t suppose you know anyone in the north who could lend a hand printing some great black and whites?
stcstcMemberi dont , sorry
but i could offer to do one of two and post them to you?
s
ParadoxPicturesParticipantAhh the joys of posting!
I assume that I could just email you a JPEG 300 dpi and mention the problems I have had in the past…
How about costs?
