Hi all desperate for help…while watching lunar eclipse decided to try take shots ( even though i dont have the lense for those type shots, more for the hell of it)…..but dropped my new camera and my lens is broke  As i bought in the states will Nikon fix it here? Maybe i am better off to buy new lens???? Nikon service centre very expensive.
    Any tips….words of sympathy :(

Eeeek!!! Shoot..that is awful. I can only say I feel for you. I was just hanging out the attic window myself..but had a good hold of the strap. Same as you..just have the 135mm lens..so not really much point in shooting it.

Is the camera okay? What lens is it?

Maybe you can claim on your home insurance?

Oh Christ !!.. You poor thing!

House insurance ?? I dropped a D70 and lens a year or so ago… and I had to take it to Conns and get a letter saying it was beyond repair and the house Insurance covered the replacement… of both.

Hi Robbie the ironic thing is i hadnt the 18-135 lens on the camera!! I have a lens that goes up to 420 on the digital from my F55 and had put 18-135 on the table(it duly fell to the floor), its the lens not camera that is damaged. I have the camera insured on home ins from day 1. (anything over certain value has to be itemised or it wont be covered). Not sure with the excess whether i could go that way.

That is such a bummer!! Making a note to self..I am never removing my lens…

Not sure what the cost of that lens is…I have the same one…think probably around ?300 or so? Excess is usually around ?100-150. Maybe if you claim and get the difference and then find a nice camerashop guy who can repair it.

Only good thing is..at least it was the lens not the camera…and it wasn’t a super expensive lens. Small comfort though I know. I’d be raging myself.

Thanks lorraine…Can i ask had you bought camera in Conns. Or did you have to buy your replacement off them??

Well — the worst thing was .. the camera wasn’t mine    :(

It was bought in Conns, and replaced there … but the insurance company didn’t care … they just wanted a value and an estimate on repair -(or whether repair was possible ) after that they paid up

Actually..is it possible to register your camera online…I know I did that with my Fuji…but I know Nikon have this thing with Us/European/Far East warranties etc. I always like to register where I can.

Correct – US cameras in US,Europe in Europe and Far East in Far East. Nikon UK will repair it though at a cost as it was dropped and is not a manufaturers defect, or try Rathmoylon as he is the Nikon SLR fixer for here

Hi robbie, Nikon service centre will look at it but said from sound of the damage i may have to get a new one. Thankfully ins will cover anything over 120 euro to either repair or replace it…thankfully i had it itemised in my home ins…. PRoblem is finding that lens hard to get it sold separately as its a kit lens…..cant afford a better lens as i still have to get a flashgun.!!! Its never ending

Okay..well that sounds a bit better. At least you’re only out of pocket by ?120. Still sickening..but not as bad.

As regards the never ending bit…yeah..totally agree…but sure isn’t that part of the fun. Think of it this way…you’re friends and family will never be stuck for ideas for Birthdays and Christmas :D

I know you can pick up that lens new on Ebay and I think also Amazon. Not sure of any bricks and mortar shop here that sell them though.
