Does this background look real, or does it look very false?

It’s pretty good. I’d be inclined to remove the part on the very right between her arm and the edge of the frame (and maybe also between her neck and hair and at each side of the guys arm on the left). These might not have been part of the original background but they are a bit distracting and if you’re cleaning it up you may as well do those too. Also, it is difficult to tell at this size but you might want to feather the transition around the girls’ hair a little to blend it in a bit better. Other than that it’s looking good! The expression on the dog is great too.

Thanks for reply mate, it is pretty rough, but just wanted to know if done properly would it look false. Thanks for your honest opinion.
Sean.
figParticipantI think at this size it doesn’t look too bad but there are still signs visible. I think you would really run into trouble if you printed this bigger than 5×7. I think it would look fake then.
lousyParticipantI think it looks great Sean, apart from the little pieces that are waiting to be done, but the background looks fine and the subjects are fine.
Lovely pic.Pat
milo123Participantgreat family pic . Feels good..
You could try gassan blur in Photoshop for the backround to give a nice soft effect
hope this helps
thedarkroomParticipantI think that possibly the outline between the subjects and the background is a little bit too sharp. If the edge of the selection could have been feathered a bit before the background was cut out then the edge between the two would have looked a bit more natural. Add a bit of yellow to reduce the magenta influence slightly (Unless my monitor needs calibrating) and Bob’s your uncle.
