Lovely to see these especially the mother and young together performing acrobatics. It’s sometimes amazing the way they swim just underneath the bow of the vessel as you are steaming always managing to be just that bit ahead, thanks for sharing…………/Mikka

    Sean,

Sorry, I wasn’t a commercial fisherman. Grew up crewing head boats off New Jersey. Spent too much of my adult life racing and skippering all manner of big yachts. I use pelagic in the sense of “free roaming in the oceans” and lived on 5 continents as well.

Now that I’m retired, I only get to teach sailing on Lough Derg and run a barge out of Tullymore (owned by the sisters from Moore Abbey)
[my bride of 30 years, is from Laois. So now I’m the farthest from the sea I’ve ever been. :( ]

Your shots of Dolphins under the bow brought back many great memories. (and very nice photography)

    Sean,

There’s one sight no one sees that you could bring back from a future trip.

That’s a dolphin swimming in a roller that’s higher than deck level. The thing you see on a very bright day after a storm. You are looking through the wave and they are swimming along side and looking over at you.

We used to see that when refueling at sea. The waves would heap up between us and the oiler.
