Drum Krass Clement

Drum by Krass Clement one of the most sought after photographic books is to be published by Books on Books.

Krass Clement’s Drum , photographed in an Irish pub on a single evening with only three and a half rolls of film, is now considered one of the most important contributions to the contemporary Danish photobook. Revolving around one principal character – a hunched, weather beaten old man who sits alone with his drink, Drum comments on community, the outsider, alienation and the terrors of being alone. Books on Books #16 presents every page spread from Clement’s masterwork with an essay by the photo historian Rune Gade called Halting, Without Halting: On Krass Clement’s Photobook Drum

It’s due out this month. A classic from an amazing photographer.

I believe there is a copy of the original book in the Tyrone Guthrie Centre Library in Co Monaghan, he was staying there when he made the images, A couple of rolls of HP5 a few pints of Guinness in a small pub in Drum and you have one of the most important photography books published. http://tyroneguthrie.ie/home

Also I highly recommend an new book from Steidl by Chris Killip called Work, its a retrospective covering his major works mainly in the UK during the Thatcher years, quality of image and reproduction is first class. Killip is a master of composition, Do check this out well worth having if you like quality photography books.

Great Eddie, thanks for posting up!. I’ve ordered it and the Chris Killip book on bookdepository.co.uk.

I must order ‘The Last Harvest’ which either you or Martin (both?) mentioned previously sometime too.

The Last Harvest is also worth having, nearly all the images are made with the Holga, its a small book but good quality again in both image quality and production standards. It might be cheaper from the States than the UK . The Killip book is great I’m sure you will enjoy it. I met him on the top of Croagh Patrick when he was doing the Ireland book, he was showing me his cameras a Plaubel Makina and he also had a nice Leica. A nice guy.

The Last Harvest arrived, the Holga really lends itself to the subject matter. Very interesting, well photographed and well written
    Worth the purchase.

Chris Killips book arrived yesterday but I’ve not had a chance to open it yet :)

Two great books for the collection, The Killip book being published by Steidl is first class, I got a signed copy from the States as a present, had to pay a little above the odds but worth it. Drum is on its way, running out of storage space, must put an image up of my collection.

I got a copy of Susan Burnstine within Shadows. Its a nice book. Im not blown away by it to be honest though. A bit too dreamy for me maybe. Just thought the pictures looked dull or something, no pop in them. The actual prints im sure are nice but they look lifeless in the book what every way it was printed. Other people im sure will love the book but for me its just ok….

Eddie: I have a bit of catching up to do by the looks of things on the library front…. nice collection

i just got Gregory Crewdson 1985-2005. its really interesting to see how his work has developed from quite simple to the extremely elaborate scenarios he is best known for. i think its a great book, mostly very high quality plates and three well written articles. I’m waiting on a copy of Beneath the Roses to arrive…

    Hey Martin,

I’ve had my ordered placed with the Book Depository for quite a while now. It seems that according to them the book is
    being published on Oct 31st.

Ah ‘Land’, I’d like that myself. Doesn’t seem to come up for sale all that often. Let us know what you think of it.
