I shot these as possible entries for a certain photo comp but went with another idea instead hopefully I made the right choice… :)

I really don’t think any of these could be described as a still life-
Although the genre allows for a lot of interpretation,
and anybody can call any type of picture anything (and they frequently do)
these pictures, to me, look like a lighting test-
Maybe ‘Everything Else’ might have been a section where you could have posted them for feedback on the lighting alone?

Sometimes, I see a picture of a single object, and I can accept it as a still life-
(it’s very difficult, if not impossible to explain) but I can’t make the connection here-

Still life can be an extremely ambitious and demanding discipline,
and it can be extremely difficult to assemble, compose, and light groups of objects in such a way as to engage the viewer.
The best examples can be very beautiful, and are usually the result of very careful consideration and planning-
Sorry, but to me, these are just balls-

I hear you JB although the section is headed “Photographs of inanimate objects” so I plead I was just following orders… and yes it was a tryout for a concept I abandoned so I can live with the Balls.

Yes, sorry about that, a cheap shot, just can’t help myself…

Perhaps the description of the section does allow for this interpretation to be made-
though ‘Still Life’, as a genre, is probably more demanding than that.

Maybe we could look at trying to define it in such a way that it can be less ambiguous?
The vast majority of pictures in this section wouldn’t be called ‘Still Life’
by anyone who puts any effort into making them-

    In my opinion-

ok, I had a go, and posted it here-
