Paul WhParticipantSeaviewParticipant
That’s a super image Paul, exposure looks perfect and I really like composition. That said I don’t think the foreground elements suit the rest of the image which looks very modern.
Dave.
pelagicMemberExposure is even but I don’t think the quays have that much light at night. Doesn’t that make it over exposed?
But a great shot.
mwallParticipantExcellent Paul, I like the foreground ‘stools’…you can feel the quietness of the near side of the liffey as opposed to the busy far side. Exposure is very good, what settings?
MikePaul WhParticipantThanks for the comments guys, I guess when I was making this exposure I wanted the viewer to want to sit down and look across the liffey, I thought to bring the image together you’d need a anchor point which was gonna be the three seats, it was an evening shot just in the moments before nightfall, not sure if it’s overexposed ?. The details Mick, well it was made with a 35mm canon eos 1n, canon 17-40f4 lens and the film was my last fuji reala 100iso (120 only available now), shop processed and shop scanned to cd, a little cropping and a contrast boost, I can barely switch on a computer so can’t do anything else, I’d normally shoot at f16 and I’m guessing 30seconds, no filters were used.
pelagicMemberPaul,
I’ll take back the overexposed comment. It looked that way on my iPad, but not on a calibtrated pc monitor. Looks like what I remember.
DanBParticipantThe composition is really nice. There aren’t many foreground items on the quay that you can use, these concrete stools and the mooring points. Other than that is just trying to avoid the protected structures (the warehouses). I remember now I have a similar image, but I never bothered processing it, maybe you gave me an idea, Paul. I know the street lighting is very warm at night time, but maybe there’s too much yellow in it?
