Hi guys,
I’m pretty new to photography and took these shots last week out in dun laoghaire

Dun Laoghaire Boathouse by Darren Kenny, on Flickr
Sunset at Dun Laoghaire by Darren Kenny, on FlickrThere’s a few more from my shoot on flickr. Would love to hear any feedback/critique/tips etc as I’ve only just started with photography. I’d generally like to clean up my flickr to include the higher quality shots so if there’s any suggestions on which photos to remove please fire away :)
All shots taken with Canon 550D and either my 18-55mm kit lens or my 50mm 1.8
Thanks,
DarrensnaphappyMemberHey Darren and welcome.Seeing as you posted a set of images the critique you recieve will mainly be general and sweeping if you would perfer more specific critiques you prob best post them in ones or twos… lovely set of images and you really hit them at the right time of the day one thing that struck me though is that the colours seem perhaps a tad oversaturated or over cooked from a processing point of view to the point that they jarr a little. From a compositional point of view the first and the fourth are excellent perhaps the fifth is a little too heavy in the foreground without anything to act as foreground interest. In the second and third images the fact that both the people and the dog are cut off in the composition really detract from it, normally its best to either have an item in or out of the image that way it sits easier on the eye. In all five the exposure is really spot on its hard to get everything right especially when you have the sun in the shot. Look forward to seeing more from you Darren.
KennyParticipantThanks for the feedback John. I may have over processed some of them but I love tinkering in Lightroom/Photomatix almost as much as taking the photos :) Sometimes its hard to know when to stop haha. I purposely saturated some of the HDR shots so they’re a bit more striking and have more contrast. I could probably dial it back a bit though.
I also seem to notice a big difference in my images depending on what monitor I view them on. On my nice newish led monitor at home the images are a lot brighter and look generally better but when I view them on any of my monitors in work they look a little under exposed. I probably need to adjust my monitor at home.
