Duncannon Fort Reenactment

    Hi,

Headed for Wexford this Saturday to Duncannon Fort for some Mainly WW2 reenactment. Wasn’t able to stay for the battle this time, but the show was well worth the drive down just to see this place! It’s like a little bit of heaven fell out of the sky. I’m planning to make a long weekend out of it next year. Oh if you ever go to Wexford, buy some strawberries as well :P

Here are the best shots from the day…

    German BMW Motorcycle and sidecar

    Takin a break

Opel Blitz truck, given the menacing treatment (needs more finishing touches though, but the basic idea is there … a skull?)

    German Mortar Team awaiting orders

    Comments Welcome,

Nice set Richie. I was down there myself on Saturday and given the timing of the last shot we were there at the same time…get yourself a PI strap, will ya! I saw quite a few white lenses and a lot more peculiar sights but as no one else had a strap I was assuming no other PI’ers were around.
By the way – were you around for Paul Merton?

    Ah, Cool :)

Nope, i wasn’t around for Paul Merton, didn’t see any P.I. Straps either, but mainly cos i’m not sure what they look like? But i’ll have to get myself one and one for the daughter as well.

Trying to think who was there that i can remember… there were a lot of SLR’s there, but thats normal nowadays. The only one that stands out in my memory was a big bald guy with a Canon L series lens and a black T-shirt, that i can remember? If that wasn’t you, then i can’t say i saw you :)

Anyway, yeah, i’ll have to grab a strap and say hello next time :)

Also i’ll have to try to get to the next P.I. Meet, I’m sick of Jess the Springer telling me that i missed a great day :P

 No, that wasn’t me. He was a serious looking dude though – really concentrating on getting killer images. Although when I saw him he had two L lenses banging against each other around his neck. I was with the other half (her with SLR too) and 3 young lads in soccer jerseys who kept demanding to be brought to the shop. It was worth the trip though. And when the WW I group set off that grenade I was sitting across the wall opposite the German soldier…lets just say the unexpected bang was definitely poop-in-pants time!

I’m living in Duncannon for about the next year and so really wanted to go to that but had to go to the RDS Dog show this weekend.. My parents and some of my uncles and aunts where there for the weekend and said it was brillant… Great shots, would have loved to have been there..

If you are in the art centre call in to Kathleen Allen, she was doing some interesting stuff printing photographs on to roofing slates. I sent her some books on alternative photographic processes a while back and she was going to give it a go. I don’t know if she has tried it yet but it would be worth a visit.
She had told me about the enactment on the bank holiday weekend but unfortunately I couldn’t make it. I’ll be down there though in a few weeks though and looking forward to it as it’s always a nice place to visit.
Anyone else going to post some photos of the enactment? I like the ones here, particularly the one of the two lads on the bench. A nice set of photos overall but I think the last one of the four soldiers is a bit on the dark side.

There were images on slate and quite attractive they were too. I spotted them going past the window but didn’t stay around to look in great detail but they were enough to grab the attention.
