Dunluce Castle

    Hi folks –
I had planned to photograph this scene in dawn light, but the weather didn’t co-operate. I got this image while scouting the location for the following morning, and I’m pretty happy with it, even if the light isn’t quite what I’d like.

Needed five stops of graduated ND filtration to balance the shadowed and lit areas.

    Cheers,
    Peter

    Hi Peter,

I love the way the castle and hill seem lifelike, they really stand out. There’s depth to the image without focal DOF. I’d like to see a bit more sky in the frame above the castle, seems a bit tight.

Best of luck if you get up early enough, this weekend should give the weather you need

    Excellent result.

The foreground seems too clear if anything, and seems to take from the view of the castle, though perhaps that’s what you wanted.

Peter, the rocks in the f/g look like they are being lit by moonlight – I thnk caused by a blue hue in the shadow areas and the direction of this seems opposite to that of the sun. The castle and cliffs also look soft on my monitor.

The rocks are in open shade, and therefore have a blue cast like all shadows. I retained this as I believe it adds to the photograph.

The image is sharp from front to back – any apparent softness is an artefact of the downsizing and jpeg compression.

    Cheers,
    Peter
