ebay question

I have been looking at a camera and lens on ebay and they are being sold together as new. i asked the seller if the camera and lens were in their original sealed boxes. the answer he gave me was-
camera and lens are sealed inside the box but the box is unsealed to check for accessories completion.” any thoughts on this, would this be normal for a seller, any seller to open the box to check the contents.

Maybe the seller is selling it as an unwanted prize and had to make sure what he stated in the auction will not backfire on him ,if the incorrect items were sold to an individual.

I have won a camera in the past, sold it on, and Yes i opened the box to make sure everything was there.

You can check his/her feedback status and what date he joined ebay to see if he is genuine or not (just one of many tests to check)

I’d believe it if the seller is a “Powerseller”, but otherwise, I wouldn’t trust it, even thought it might be genuine.

Have purchased lots on e-bay without problems, but always from “Powersellers”

Iris – Would it hurt or put you to any inconveniece to say “Thanks for the advice guys”?

You did a fine job on this thread of totally and utterly ignoring stcstc for example…

And I replied to a thread of your’s recently without so much as ‘thank you’?

It get’s on people’s goat when this sort of behaviour goes on… I hope you know that.

The seller’s feedback is more important.
The box being open is fine. I used to work in a camera shop, every camera I sold, I’d break the seals, open the box and show the customer everything was there.

In fairness, if you look at nearly all of my posts on advice wanted, i have responded with a thank you to most and maybe over look one. NFL-Fan your advice/Opinion (See link above) was appreciated BUT it was more of what YOU would DO with the money and not Advice per say. I sometimes PM people and thank them for their Advice, Just for the record.

    Apologies Iris…

I accept that it’s totally possible, human error n’ all that, to ignore 4 replies by a person to a question (in the case of stcstc).

And in my case… so we don’t thank people for their opinions? To anyone who ever critiqued any of my photos and to whom I went to the effort of thanking… I take it back.

Ken, John, Sinead… good advice there. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Iris. My advice regarding purchasing on ebay or anywhere else is if you don’t trust the sale, don’t buy. If you feel that you need to ask advice on a sale don’t buy. Just my opinion. I didn’t like the ps cash on collection note which was highlighted. Maybe genuine, maybe not.

Thanks Miki g, i think i will just buy this camera in Calumet, its around €100 more but i suppose there is the peace of mind element knowing i can walk into the store if anything should go wrong with the camera. http://www.calumetphoto.co.uk/item/321-035E/ i was going to buy the 450D, but have changed my mind. looks like the 40D is for me.
And thanks to the people who PM me, with words of wisdom :)
