Hi have just start using Elements 5. and trying to start to use Raw file formats.
im using a 400d canon which saves my raw files with the extension, img123.cr2
when i go to open the file in Elements 5 it says it is the wrong file type.any help please
confused
rmMemberI had a similar problem recently with the version of Elements that was supplied with a Leica camera.
It may not help but try checking what version of the Camera Raw Plug in you have installed (plug-ins… under the Elements menu on a Mac). Then check the Adobe web site for the latest version and download in necessary.
(.cr2 files from my 400D open fine in Photoshop CS and Elements 4 for me so there will be an answer somewhere)
RodredMemberyeah downloaded raw 4 yesterday which is the latest but
still the same, ill keep workin on it anyways
cheers
ThorstenMemberIf all else fails, you can use Canon’s own RAW conversion software, DPP (Digital Photo Professional). This is an excellent piece of software that all too many people overlook. I use it as my principal RAW converter and only use something else (Capture One) on those rare occassions where I don’t like the results coming out of DPP.

still the same,it’s been a while since i updated my RAW pluging and i’m using CS2 (should be the same for elements) but… from what i remember it doesn’t just install you have to copy the file to a directory (can’t think which one off hand) but when you copied the file to the directory it should have requested to overwrite the old file, did it? if not it might not be the right directory… or maybe the file didn’t overwrite for some reason…
RodredMembercheers,
got i sorted, downloaded the mac version, by a mistake.
am i right in saying that camera raw 4 opens through elements?
when i have made changes to my raw image can i then save it back to
a jpeg image and modify it futher in elements??thanks for the help everyone

I think that version is probably ok,
its more likely you have a problem with your computer :Dj
