Embassy Patrol
-
SteveDParticipant
This was taken outside the British Embassy in Berlin. I combined 5 exposures, and you can see that by the time I took the last one this policeman was well aware I was snapping him. Five minutes later he came over and told me to get away from the embassy! :D
Not often I post a mono shot, in fact I think this might be my second this year! Feedback is very welcome as I’m not totally convinced by this one yet. Worth a print?
Many thanks,
SteveRobMemberWorth a print?
I certainly think so.Very clever work. Good timing on your exposures too.
A striking image and good coversion.Rob.
jb7ParticipantI can see that you were going for an architecture shot
before an opportunity for something else presented itself-Not many street shots get to be taken off a tripod…
I like this one as an Architectural composition,
especially if there were something more to be had above-The Guard is perhaps a little informal,
though what can you expect these days?Unlikely to be timing his goose steps to match the fenestration…
And he was probably more worried about being photographed with his hand in his pocket
(to give him the benefit of the doubt)
than Defending the Realm…Nice conversion too-

randomwayMemberThis image is a cracker! The shadows, the timing, the idea itself… really nice work. I have tried taking photos at the airport before and I was almost shot in the head, the guards were so upset… you’re lucky..
Nice classic feeling because of the use of tripod and the dark edges… I would definately print this large.
SteveDParticipantThanks guys, I’m glad you liked them. I felt sorry for these policemen assigned to guarding the embassy actually, it must be the most boring job.
Here are 2 more, would love to hear your thoughts…
Thanks,
SteveMartinParticipantAll three images are very good, number 1 (cracking shot) being the best for me followed by no 3. In number three would be nice to see a version slightly panned to the left so that the bicycle is in the center and the pole is off to the right. Number 2 is nice but the colours look unnatural to me or else it?s just my monitor. Number 1 and 3 are very well spotted you have a good eye

PeteTheBlokeMemberjb7ParticipantI’m not so sure these are very ‘street’
even though the second is, obviously,
a street-The first is a detail of a facade,
and the second, well it doesn’t really explain what it is,
its almost an abstract composition-I dunno,
but I usually expect street to have people in them?
street life?j
CoveyParticipantThe original shot is super, love the idea and brought off so well.
Only critique is the bottom is too dark ( for me that is ) and I’d cut it slightly or dodge burn it that the feet don’t look truncated.
Love the idea that the message comes out during the exposure and that the top left presents a sense of mystery as to where he is going.
The second shot is excellent also, though the vignetting does very little for me.
The third shot I like a lot. Have you maybe considered a square format, cropped just below(or within) the circle of the bollard. Very strong shot indeed.

AimeeParticipanteshortieParticipantWow that first on is something to be proud of, it’s brilliant nice classic look to it! :)
I like the 3rd one too!
Great shots! :DLoGillParticipantI so missed this… glad to see them now though..
All good images.. but of course the first one steals it .. You have to know that first one is great … c’mon… you know it is :)
Great idea, very well executed.

IforParticipantThat first shot, wow! I looked at the image and thought hold on………..then I read the text!
Typical of them telling you to go away, they spoil all the fun.Jay KingParticipantI just love that first shot… brilliant.
Well timed exposures and perfect composition of the architecture and guard IMO…
Lovely… well worth a print.
richiehatchMemberLove the 3 of these Steve.. really well spotted and then processed..! Super as usual…!
