I’ve looked at all 3 insect posts and the sharpness and DOF in all is excellent, especially looking at the shutter speed and you were handholding. Some of the colours in the insects look lovely too.

Excellent images all three. I take it they were taken early morning as it looks like dew drops on the leaf in #1. I’ll have to invest in a 100mm. With my 60mm I have to get too close to get a decent image & they just fly off. Well done

Are you cropping these or are they as taken? great shots.

Goosebanker, miki g and John thanks all for looking and comments.

Goosebanker, the ringflash really helps as I can up the shutterspeed to get over the 50yr old handshake.

miki g, These were taken just after the monsoon like rain stopped this morning. I was hoping the insects would all be bit sluggish and I would be able to get in close for the shots.

John, most of the images would be cropped to a certain extent. The 100mm is still a bit too short to get really close up in the wild (for me anyway), especially with some flies and insects. I do try to fill the frame where possible but most of my recent Emo Insect posts are really small critters so even at 1:1 a crop to display the best image is necessary.
Here is one of the posted images as taken, no crop just converted to jpeg, resized and unsharp mask………….Mikka

These are really good; the ring flash makes a big difference to macro stuff. A tripod or monopod if you can get it into place makes a huge difference also – check out how to lockup the mirror (custom function) I think and use a cable release if possible. Really makes a noticable difference.

Perfect little set with great lense.

The detail is very crisp and defined. Well done indeed :)
