Hi to all, (what a marvellous site) I’ve just bought myself an entry-level Nikon d40 and wondered before I sign up to a course at Carrigaline Community School for a beginners night course are there any other courses in Cork I should consider? Thanks in advance.

deborahParticipantHi
Just wondering if all one knows of weekend classes/events suitable for a complete starter in the world of photography? I am willing to travel as needs be. Weekdays don’t suit – I commute……..Also I want to buy a good starter camera any recommendations? Should I go digital or film?
Thanks in advance for any advice.

Deborah, we run a weekend Beginners Course here in Dublin. Probably too far for you (although we get a lot of weekend students coming up and staying ovenight). The next one is on Saturday the 29th and Sunday the 30th of March. Details here if you’re interested: http://www.digitalbeginners.ie/digitalbeginnersweekend.htm

I run two-day one-to-one courses near Gougane Barra in West Cork. See my website http://www.petercox.ie/workshops for details. I’m currently offering 10% off for Photography Ireland members if you book by the end of March.Cheers,
PeterIOPParticipantA number of you have contacted me about the night course in Cork, many thanks for that.
Some consistent questions keep coming up so I thought I’d answer those here:
– The Beginners Course starts on Wednesday the 16th of April at 7.30pm in the Ambassador Hotel, Cork (there’s free parking in the hotel)
– The course is 8 weeks long and includes a Night Field Trip in Week 6 (we show you how to take great night shots the week before)
– All students receive a folder of 118 pages of full colour notes written in plain English and illustrated with appropriate photos. We provide these because we feel that courses delivered with notes help significantly with the retention of information. The notes are designed with plenty of white space also so you can scribble notes where appropriate
– We also give you software that allows you to do wonders with your photos without having a Rocket Science Degree, and we show you how to use it
– Homework is critiqued each week based on the previous weeks topic (students consistently tell us that this is the most valuable aspect of the course for them)
– Cost is €245Dave
