    Environmental Portrait is the ‘theme.’
    Feedback welcome.

First one is pretty close to being super… I’d pull back the processing/contrast just a touch.

The second one doesn’t work for me at all. Technically it’s fine, but it feels very staged and the subject looks SO stiff.

First one for me too. Wonderful expression and posture.

Contrary to the first two posters, I much prefer the second one. :)
I like the stiffness in the shopkeeper. Reminds me of the days when people were not used to cameras, and the surrounding environment suits that theme. Love the old scales, and the “Brasso” signs. :)

Thanks for the feedback – interesting that someone likes/prefers the second one? She certainly was very stiff and reluctant to pose for the camera, and I thought it showed. However I liked the setting in the sweet shop, and may go back another day to see if someone more biddable is serving in there!
The first one was taken in very harsh lighting, and I struggled to salvage a print out of it. I just walked around an allotment site and asked people to pose. This guy used to be in a camera club years ago and was very willing to play along.
    Thanks,
    Ross

Ross if these are for nipa round 5 I would tend to go with the first image, as a print I think it will stand out well from the crowd.
