    Hey everyone
    Is anyone here using the Epson photo 1400, if so what is it like? would you recommend it?

    I’ve used one for about 18 months and find it very good, only for my own use i don’t sell prints.
    Some users have experienced problems getting good b/w prints but I’m happy with mine but if you are
    intending to print a lot of b/w there’re better printers out there.

    It’s a great printer for dipping your feet into A3 printing. Great for colour prints, with fantastic blacks. B&W prints can be problematic, but if it’s for primarily colour prints, it’s great. I had one for about 18 months and was very happy with it. Stick with the Claria (OEM) inks, as the give great longevity. Once you switch to 3rd party inks, your longevity could drop to a couple of years or less. Inks have dropped in the last few years, a full set of 6 carts used to cost about €80, but that’s now down to about €45. I’ve upgraded to an R2880 since, but was happy with the 1400 while I had it.

    As others have said, it may take a bit of experimenting to get it to print to your satisfaction, especially B&W, but I believe I can do it. The main thing is to make sure that either the software or the printer control the colour, not both. Most advice suggests it is best to define the required print profile in the software (photoshop or whatever), and switch off the printer managing the colour.

    Dave, re cost of Claria ink I’d be very interested to know where it can be bought for €45 the best I can find is €12 per individual colour

    Hi everyone
    Thanks for all the replies, I print more black and white than colour so that really worries me, what’s the R2880 like for black and whites?

    Thanks again for all the replies

    The 2880 is the Bees Knees for B&W – It’s one the things that made it such a huge success. If you are doing a lot of printing you should give serious consideration to the Epson 3880 as it is MUCH cheaper (at least 30%) to run and far fewer cartridge changes.

    Hi All , i purchased an epson 1400 last february and was delighted to have it home and after setting it up and done all the usual tasks i printed a few photos to test it .What I was getting were Light lines across the prints after every pass of the print head .I ran through all the cleaning and print alignment and the printer eating up the ink and still no change. I left it for a few days as i was busy and when I went back to print from it 3 days later I heard this unreal banging coming from the printer as it was printing .I turned it off straight away and did not try her till the following morning. It turned out that a small cog wheel had broken off in the printer and had come down through it causing the banging noise.
    I returned the printer and got a new /reconditioned one from the factory as they told me. Believe it or not I had the same print problems with the lines on this one , strange this was that on dark colors I saw them more but on light colors none. now she seems to be printing ok{ touch wood }
    If i bought a cheap printer it would work straight out of the box and after paying almost €500 including ink I have issues.When I got back the new printer I was told it was tested yet there was no ink in the line and it guzzled half of mine .Surely they should replace even with a sample cartridge to allow for the ink lost ???as its still under guarantee. this has been my experience with the epson 1400 :cry:

    Sorry to hear you have had so much trouble with the Epson 1400, I’ve been using one for a few years trouble free. You should certainly look for a new printer as replacement or a full refund,

    I’m surprised at the purchase price €500 seems high I only paid €300 two years ago!! did you get it in Ireland?
