Just reading through my own insurance recently prompted me to read into other camera equipment policies and found that nearly all cover you worldwide which is great BUT…….if your equipment is confiscated by the authorities or by agents of the state you are not covered. If your equipment is damaged due to being repaired or serviced…..no cover……AND……..if, say, your beautiful Nikon, Canon or whatever gets stolen, the insurance company then, at that stage, seem to run a check on the serial number that you specified on your schedule and if its found to be counterfeit, illegal import or “dodgy” in such ways ….. you aint got cover !!!

hopefully this might be because the repair firm would have its own cover, and there’s no point in having it doubly insured. Just a thought.

Like Thorsten, I met the guys from Towergate insurance (UK) at the SWPP show in Dublin and got talking. Because we at Barker Photographic get so many of our customers not knowing where to go for Photographic cover ( Especially for Pro / Semi Pro Cover) we agreed to provide a link on our website to them. I must stress that we are not brokers, do not provide insurance advice or endorse any particular policys, but just helping Photographers get a quotation. You can check them out at http://www.towergatecamerasure.co.uk/ (they will have a .ie website in the next few days), You can tell them Barker Photographic told you about them. Alternatly you can go to our website : http://www.barkerphotographic.ie/download/camerasure.pdfand print off an enquiry form and a FREEPOST label to get a quote. You do NOT have to be a member of any association to get cover with them.

I got a quote from Towergate, but ended up going with FBD – they were ?150 cheaper and I can call into them whenever I have a query or problem. ?630 for over 10k of kit and 2.5m PL.
