European Hornet

  • I think this is the first hornet I have seen, I caught it in my bedroom last night must have been around 2″ long (picture does not do it justice). It is behind a glass, so picture quality is not great, just thought you might like a look at these big creatures.

Get some aspect, stick your finger beside it or something (if you’re brave enough that it. haha)
Always hated wasps gowing up, I can’t imagine I’d enjoy coming face to face with this fellow…

oooh!……hope ya let him go, a real beauty  I dont think it’s a Hornet though, different facial mask.

lol…I didn’t feel like putting my hand in with s/he, it would surely want a bite as it was a bit peed off with me. They are very gentle compared to the smaller wasps though, if that is any more reassuring.

Noely it is deffnitaly a european hornet  Here is a link to a picture of one- http://www.istockphoto.com/file_closeup/?id=3177431&refnum=501186

They are really attracted to light, s/he was hitting of the bedroom light for ages until I trapped it, thought it was a moth at first while flying but knew it wasn’t as it’s buzzing was so loud. I set it free the next day.

He/She looks a brute don’t know if it is a hornet but it can be what it wants as long as it stays under the glass
Did your sister get her new camera yet and has she joined up here yet.

    Hey Soda,

Well what ever it is it’s amazing, I enjoyed observing it for a while anyhow.

Yeah, she got her camera, she got a cannon 100 mm macro with it also and really likes it. She has not joined up here yet as she currently has no internet. She is due to get broadband in a few weeks so I will get her to join then. I like the camera that guthrij has for sale, sent a pm but have heard nothing yet.
