Exhibition in IMMA
-
thefizzParticipant
Having been informed of the following exhibition by a member on another site, I visited the Irish Museum of Modern Art yesterday to see the Out of the Darkroom, the David Kronn Collection exhibition and have to say it was excellent.
There are prints by some of the greats such as Ansel Adams, Brett Weston, Irving Penn, Robert Mapplethorpe, Harold Edgerton, Annie Leibovitz and many more. There are 165 prints on show with some almost a hundred years old and still in great condition. There’s even a few inkjet prints there but they were probably just filling wall space with them
Its runs till 9th October so no excuses not to see it.
texMemberA visit to the above exhibition confirmed for me the absolute beauty of analogue photography and the mastery of the previous generation of photographers of their art. I looked with envy (but not jealousy) at photo after photo wishing I had even a portion of their skill and insightfulness. Despite my many years in photography it takes an exhibition like this to see how much further I’ve to travel to even come within hailing distance of these masters.
My consolation in coming away from this exhibition is to know that I can visit it again and that I myself am still working in the same medium from my home darkroom.MartinParticipantHope to get in to see this on the weekend. Might make a day out of it and go up to peoples photography on the green also
Ger 208kParticipantI must agree. To see so many examples of masters of photography under the same roof was such an experience. It’s truly inspirational.
Ps. I’m hanging some work on the green, so if you’re around, say hello.
damien.murphyParticipantEnjoyable exhibition, and usually try to get down to IMMA when there is any photography exhibit on. Great to see prints from the likes of Irving Penn, Harry Callahan, Adams et al. Now if only IMMA could up the amount of photo exhibits there.. :)

They might Damien, if only there were some masters of digital photography that could be recognized out of the millions that are participating in the art
damien.murphyParticipantHa ha, plenty of masters of digital photography, even the likes of Sebastiao Salagado is shooting digitally these days ;)
The SnapperMemberI went to this a few weeks back and am glad I did. Some of my favorite images were the blurred pictures of the buddhist monks by Petah Coyne, I loved them :)
Surely the people who have commented on this thread are not the only ones to have visited, this being a Photography forum en all :(
Or have I missed another thread.
Jonnyp16vParticipantI was at this with my college class on wed, enjoyed it. I really liked Brett Weston’s stuff. My favourite photo was David Goldblatt’s “plot holder”.
hughParticipantYeah, I second the Petah Coyne. Those images were fantastic. Thanks for reminding me about them …. been meaning to check her(?) out ..
EddieParticipantThis exhibition has moved to Cork.
