Exhibition Printing/presentation help

I have an upcoming solo exhibition before Christmas, and I’m Looking for advice on how to exhibit my Images and what works well. I would like to exhibit the images using large and medium format Printing. Foamboard/hardboard/card/or canvas, even though the images are not necessarily the type for “Hanging over the Mantelpiece” i would still like them to look well presented in case someone wanted to buy one. The Images were taken in a disused Hospital and the purpose of the photo shoot was to record the interior as is, nothing fancy. If there is anyone who can recommend printers who specialise in exhibit printing please do let me know. This exhibit is being part Funded by the Galway County Council.

Was at a recent exhibition where Steve Crozier printed all the shots for it. Quality was as good as the best I have seen

Cheers Shutterbug, i will have a look at the sponsors on here.

Cheers ossie13 and martin, i got a large format Wall decor image done by steve last year, and the standard was pretty bad unfortunately.

I would add to the recommendations already heaped on Steve’s printing.
I saw the same exhibition that Martin mentioned,
and the prints were as good as any inkjets I’ve seen.

A print can only be as good as the original file,
and only if it comes from a colour managed workflow.

Unless there were some specific quality issues,
perhaps your expectations might have been confounded by your own lack of experience.
Again, if anyone wants quality prints for exhibition,
    Steve can produce them.

I can vouch for Steve, too, but it has to be noted that the files need to be prepared to a good standard on a calibrated monitor to get good quality prints. He wouldn’t necessarily know what you wanted to get, and unless you asked him to do processing, he won’t touch the pictures (as expected – people usually don’t want their images to be modified). What was wrong with the prints you got from him?

Unfortunately, there was specific quality issues, (quite a lot in fact) which had nothing to do with the digital Image quality, or the photographers experience, and the only thing confounded was me, as i never knew you could get as many imperfections on one image.

I’m very surprised to hear this … as a customer of 360-dpi, I have never had any issues with printing … and I am dogged about the quality of my prints…

Iris I have little knowledge of you at all apart from the fact that you came on here before getting my blood to boil by claiming about Irish suppliers “its hard to support your own when the prices are so high.” When I sent you a PM with an extra special price on a hard disc you did not even bother to reply.

It’s throw away comments like that, that cause people not to shop in Ireland and here you go again publicly having a go at a businessman trying his best for the industry which is clearly obvious by his involvement in this site and many other forums where he gives his advice freely. By 9.00am today 208 people have read your comment and who knows how many more will read it in the next couple of weeks. The fact that you are eligible for a Galway County Council grant at all when you buy your equipment abroad and flaunt the import tax laws here astounds me “A friend of mine who was on a trip to America Bought me a canon 50D with a 28-135 IS USM lens for $1234 which worked out at €880 in total, and this was last week.” and “I have a new flash arriving next week from the USA, hand delivered as usual. Its a Canon Speedlite 430EX II with a compatible sto-fen omni-bounce, all in price of €210 to my Door.”

If you have a problem with Steve why not work it out between yourselves rather than go on a public forum, hiding behind a forum name and rubbishing his business for everyone to see. It is evident by many of the other posts that most people do not share your views.

I don’t know Steve or Iris personally so I don’t particularly have any loyalty to either of them. As a consumer though, If I purchase an item from someone and it’s not up to the standard it should be, I complain “at the time of purchase” or shortly afterwards and explain what is wrong. I don’t go onto a public forum to complain about the quality issues, I go directly to the service provider in person and show them what I am not happy with.
If I have the opportunity to examine the goods before purchase, I wouldn’t even leave the shop or part with the money if I wasn’t satisfied. Steve’s service is highly recommended on this site, by people who know what they want and usually get the quality they require from Steve. He is recommended almost on a weekly basis by members, which I would find to be very surprising, if he couldn’t deliver the goods.
Iris should contact Steve privately to discuss what the previous issues were and explain exactly what you expect in terms of quality, He can then tell you if he can do it or not.

And sheldon, i will give you a call if you can do me a deal. I want to spend my money in this country, i live here..!!

Sheldon if you read the reply from me on the topic of Storage in a previous post, at the bottom of my Reply to You, you will find the above highlighted sentance. Just to set the record straight, any items that are purchased for me abroad are “Gifts” as stated on the customs waybill.

I came on this site last year looking to have some wall decor done, and i put the question out there and got a reply from steve. He said he could do it. There was a slight problem with the file size and i had placed a filter over the image in photoshop, when enlarged it made the image look like it had a ghost around the edges of the subject, but we solved all that and steve sent me the finished product. The second i opened it the flaws were very obvious. I contacted steve and told him the story, i also e.mailed photos of the imperfections to him. He said if he had noticed all the imperfections he wouldn’t have sent it out to me. i payed €90, and in my Innocence, i asked for (and received) a rebate of €10 where i should have asked for a full rebate.

I am not here to rubbish anyone’s business, i am like everyone else, looking for good service. I started this thread looking for someone to print exhibit Quality prints for me, and not to rubbish anyone’s business or reputation, and if steve wants to come on here and acknowledge the fact or even pm me, feel free to do so. Call a spade a spade.
All the relevant people know my name, even steve.

I’ve only used Steve for prints the first time this year. Had 15 prints done by Steve for an exhibition recently – 26×20 inch image area from a 5D – and I was really impressed by the quality. I was a bit nervous of getting prints done, it was never my intention to have an exhibition, and I spent an awful lot of time prepping the images. Steve went out of his way to do test prints on various papers, for free. For the exhibition prints Steve did notice some very minor pixelation in a small area on one image and pointed it out to me, but even then it wasn’t very noticeable. Steve Also handled all the framing, was very helpful with suggestions, and delivered everything ahead of schedule at a very good price. I’d have no hesitation in recommending him and I’ve no intention of going elsewhere for any prints.

Personally I wouldn’t have an issue with Iris, or anyone, posting a negative comment on a public forum about someone’s services as long as it was honest. If Iris has genuinely had a bad experience is it not fair for those comments to be posted? Sure, a few hundred people will read Iris’ unfavourable sentiments but they’ll also read the positive ones which far out-number hers. It’s up to those readers to then make up their minds, the same as you do when you read positive/negative reviews about films, books, or whatever else on other public forums or sites like Amazon.

I find it a bit unnerving that on the back of one negative experience Iris’ own technical expertise has been brought into question, as well as questioning whether she should be eligible for a government grant. If I was unhappy with the service provided by someone I’d see no reason not to make others aware of it, surely that’s what public forums are for. While I might not agree with Iris’ views on Steve’s services I think she deserves a bit more respect than she’s been shown.
