Expanded ISO / Spot Metering on the Canon Eos 400D

Firstly excuse me if I am repeating old news, it’s my second day here (sounding rather homer simpson-ish)

Two weeks ago I applied a small hack to my 400D in order to get an expanded ISO range out of it. The expanded ISO range doesn’t help that much, bar taking pictures of the little one in low light environment. They’ll never cut the rigor of pro photography, but good enough for the family album. Anyways, one feature it did enable was spot metering!
At last is all I can say, I hate carrying around my 40D, cause it’s my main camera, afraid of someone breaking it, but my 400D spends it time traveling around with me. Spot metering has made it alot easier for me to get what I want first time…

Might be of use to some others out there. I placed a how-to up on my website here!

Cool, thanks for sharing the info. I jsut might give it a spin. How usable is iso 3200?

If only the auto-focus on the camera could be improved …

Here’s an image (resized smaller) and a section from said image:

As you can see it’s fairly noisey. Depends on what you are looking for. I’m sure a bit more light might help though, that was taken with a F1.4 in my sitting room, curtains closed and a few lights on. Shutter speed was 1/60 I think.

A bit noisey but not too bad at all, I’m sure its usable, I’ll have to check it out.

    Thanks again,

    Martin
