Eye to eye with a red squirrel

Taken a short while back, Kodak 400VC, f 2.8 Canon 200 L, I’m drawing these guys in close enough to get tight close up images, hope to redo this one soon and have the full tail in the next one.

Excellent shot Paul & great to see the reds are still about. I had a grey hop calmly past me today (approx 10ft in the open) . Needless to say, I wasn’t prepared (camera in the bag).

    Great shot Paul.

mikig, the only way to be prepared for grey squirrels, aka tree rats, is with a shotgun, both barrels, leave nothing behind    ……./Mikka

Thanks for the comments guys, funny thing about the greys is that they were all over this forest and the fact that they spend so much time running around on the forest floor was their downfall, we’ve very healthy pine martens in this forest who cleared out the greys and the reds came back by themselves, the reds spend most of their time in the trees and so manage at the best of times to escape the martens. What you’ll notice as well when I am making images of these guys is that they are right beside a tree, I don’t draw them out into the open where there is no escape, you’d have to be careful with that shotgun Michael, there’s a €3 bounty on the grey tail you might ruin it, best to try an air rifle
