    C&C welcome

Both taken at a fair in Mullagh, Co. Cavan yesterday. I should have made a note of what type of falcon it was!

    Welcome to the site alfa.
No.1 is a lovely shot, but no.2 leaves me wanting a bit more – it’s chopped off in the
    wrong places for me.

If you find out what kind of bird it is I’d be interested. Young peregrine?

I do like #1 a LOT. Nice posture, composition, catchlights and detail. #2 would’ve been a total stunner with more or all of the bird. I would’ve guessed Peregrine as well.

Thanks folks. No2 was a bit of an accident! I had focused for another portrait when it started flapping it’s wings. By the time I zoomed back out it had stopped :-(

The birds were perched on some fairly ugly plastic perches, which is why I left the feet out. Nice birds to photograph though.

Yup – the first one it is. The second, as Pete suggests, does leave you wanting more. Great exposure and clarity. White balance seems spot on to me too. The first would look well blown up and mounted with a black border.

Thanks Alan. I’ll have to try a print and see how it turns out. It was shot in RAW so WB was set afterwards to cloudy (like most shots this summer).

dont think its a peregrine, and its not a young bird, its possiby a peregrine X lanner hybrid

    Thanks RavenAsh

Tiny – I’m not sure it’s a peregrine either, as they had signs up with the different bird types, and I think I would have noticed if it had said it was a peregrine (as I’ve heard lots about them but never seen one before). It does look a little like one from photos I’ve compared it against though. I’d say it was about 30cm from head to foot.

its definatly not a peregrine… i have flown and trained birds of prey for years.. but i’m not good on recognising the hybrid falcons….
so i think its a lanner hybrid or a babrary hybird
