These are two images from last night down in fanore beach I was shooting a lot of wide stuff when i spotted these breakers as the tide started coming in so I popped on the telephoto and waded out just before where they were breaking (the water was lovely and warm ). Two different processings here the first is a quicker shutter with a more saturated colours and the second is a slower shutter with more delicate tones . As always guys i see something wrong please tell me so I can fix it next time……

Smythy75MemberHey John. Great pics. They look like they were painted. Any tips on where to begin shooting a shot like that? What settings on the camera? I’ve a D7000.
snaphappyMemberThanks guys … Symthy I was messin around with shutter speeds last night and found between 1/25 and 1 second gave me the effect of movement I wanted in the water. I wanted to be some between the classic sharp image and milky waterscapes that are in vogue at the moment. I also wanted to keep the F stop as high as I could to give the image a good deep focus area. Needles to say you would hand hold the camera at those shutters so I brought the tripod out into the water with me and forced the legs down into the sand as far as I could to stop the tripod moving in the current. As the light faded I ended up having to keep pushing out the iso to keep the shutter speeds quick enough for what I wanted. When using slowish shutter speed its imortant that the horizon is a nice clean sharp line or even better again is to include something in the composition like a rock or headland the contrast the slow water effect otherwise it just looks like a badly taken or soft shot. cheers again for looking and commenting.
jodal1975Participantlove the 1st one john …i take it you had a grad nd on …because the light seems very low for getting the shutter speed you must have used to keep the water semi crisp .
snaphappyMembersndipoMemberI think the longer shutter speed doesn’t appeal here as much as you’d think. Love the first shot, very nice and well executed!
BrickerParticipantBoth are smashing, the 1st though would be my choice if forced to make one.
Heading down that way for a week this Saturday…… just as the weather chages :(
PixelleMemberThe first for me.
I find the light top right too distracting – though the reflection from that light on the water adds to the depth of the pic.lousyParticipantHi John, two very nice images, although as Pixelle said…the light top right in #1 does draw my eye. I would prefer #1 all the same.
