The lake at Farmleigh, Phoenix Park.

Nice exposures, good colour, nice reflections. A swan or perhaps some colourful water lilies in the foreground water would have given this photo a focal point and made it a better shot.

    Thanks Fergus.

Yes – I agree, something in the foreground would have added to the shot. No swans in Farmleigh but there are lots of ducks. Just none anywhere near me on that particular day.

I wonder why you shot it in the vertical mode when it really is a landscape shot. As it is, the sky is as prominent as the lake and the trees drag your eyes upwards away from your subject matter. The colour of the sky and its reflection look a little unreal to me, more cobalt blue than sky blue. One final point the far bank which acts as the horizon is leaning down to the right I think your picture would look better if you straightened it up.
Sorry to sound so negative as your photo is nicely exposed and this is just one person’s opinion.

Hi tex – thanks for all the honest and constructive comments.

I really liked the way the light fell against the bark of the tree and hence the unusual aspect. Another reason for not going the lanscape route was the fact that there wasn’t much of interest to the left of the frame.

When I look at the bank now I can see what you mean about the horizon. a little bit of anti-clockwise rotation in PS would help.

    Thanks,

    George.

great exposure considering all the tones and shadows in the scene and nice reflection. you could probably crop some off the top (somewhere under the branch below the sign top right) and there has definitely been some playing with the master tint, the sky is showing some signs of green.could also have done with some foreground interest …the light falling on the tree isnt enough. not trying to be negative , just honest ….:-) …thats the problem with photographs …its very hard to convey what it is your seeing with the eye , it never looks quite the same ! :-)
