"Fat Tax"

Ryanair are asking people to vote on their proposal to introduce a fat tax for every
customer who weighs in at 20stone for men and 15 stone for women. Are they for
real?I wonder if they will discriminate against pregnant women also?
andy mcinroyParticipantI think that’s appalling.
They should just make them pay for 2 seats.
Either that or force them to remove all their pork pies from their handluggage to save on fuel.
Liam2673ParticipantA member of the association of big people was on newstalk yesterday evening, a semi-interesting fact: the average american is 24lbs heavier than in the 1950s, but the plane seat has not changed size.
I think Ryanair is trying to p*ss large people off so that they won;t travel with them, rather than tax them. Which will work.
I’m wondering at what point Ryanair goes to far. It is a testament to the power of money, that Ryanair can say whatever they want, offend whoever they want, and still people travel with them to get the cheap deal.
steelydanParticipantThis is the same as the “Pay To Pee” scam/scare that O’Leary tried last April fools Day.
The fact its made PI is evident that advertisements work
That’s it ..I’m off to Weight Watchers
SeaviewParticipantBMParticipantPoor customer service is all about working to the lowest common denominator.
Mick451ParticipantthedarkroomParticipant“What do you mean I can’t bring this on as hand luggage, that’s my lunch”
Don’t you know that Michael O’Leary considers ALL publicity to be good publicity, no matter how Ryan Air is portrayed. The set up their controversial ‘ extra charges proposals’ website to be just that, controversial. The notion of introducing any of the suggestions is promoted to get people talking. How clever is that, people are queueing up to contribute to their website and everyone’s talking about it. When that dies down he’ll put some full page adds in the national media to rattle the usual cages and get the jungle drums going again. I think it’s great myself, it’s all entertainment.
By the way, I definitely wouldn’t be considered small. I’m 6′ 2″ and weigh nearly 19 stone so I’m f***ed on the height and the weight if O’Leary wanted to squeeze in more by weight and size. :)
bingbongbiddleyParticipantLiam, if you were listening to that guy on Hooky’s show, he was actually from the association for aeroplane passengers.
As thedarkroom said, this is just free publicity for Ryanair.
I like Newstalk but I’m really sick of them promoting Ryanair by dedicating so much time to the publicity stunts they pull off. When they had the guy talking about paying for peeing it was extremely obvious that they had no intention of introducing such a fee. I think Dennis O’Brien has a stock in Ryanair.
BrickerParticipantThe heavier the object…… the more fuel they have to burn to get it off the ground….. therfore the higher the cost to the airline.
Thats why they want to have a wee fee….. less weight at takeoff.
They should give reduction if you are prepared to stand during takeoff and jump when the captain yells NOW!
