If 3 people really like an image and 97 don’t, is the image good or bad?
Should the photographer continue to appeal to those 3 people, or change his way of shooting to appeal to the other 97?
If its my image and I like it then the image has to be good because in the end its really me I am trying to please with most of my pictures.
OK for competition stuff then I can occasionally take something that I might not really like but that I know will appeal to the judges. But I don’t see that as any different to a pro on an assignment. (only not as good!!)
In the end I think its really about pleasing yourself and if you can take on board stuff people say and it improves your work, in your eyes, then that’s what good criticism should be about
wasn’t picking on you Martin  LOVE that *no praise list*…perfect LOL
Personally..I don’t even post shots of my own that I am satisfied with and particularly proud of….I come here looking for any advice to improve photos that just leave me with a niggling that there is some way to get a better result from a decent start…. and thankfully there a some lovely people here who are willing to help.
I guess I meant that I get frustrated when people claim that it is unrewarding to hear that their photo is attractive and appealing.
Why on earth did they share it if they didn’t intend for it to inspire? If someone asks a specific technical question regarding improvement then it is obvious that they are interested in more than someone’s opinion..but when a photo is tossed up for critique…I think it’s fairly fair to offer praise without the doubt that you may have bored the photographer to tears with your comment.
